Sensitization cum fish seed distribution programme on the occasion of “World Environment Day”

 

In connection with the World Environment Day a day long sensitization cum fish fingerlings distribution programme was successfully organized by the Division of Fisheries, ICAR-RC-NEH Region, Umaim under the Tribal sub plan programme of the Institute in collaboration with the Umroi Block Youth Congress Assembly (UBYCA), Bhoirymbong, Ri-Bhoi district, at Mwatneng Village, Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya on 5th June 2018. In the opening remark Mr. A.G. Stain , Head man of Mawtneng Village acknowledge ICAR-RC-NEH Region for supporting in organizing the programme and the need to keep the locality clean for a health environment. Mr. S. G. Singh, Scientist, Division of Fisheries, ICAR-RC-NEH Region elaborated the importance of fish as a rich source of protein which can meet the nutritional deficiency of the rural tribal people. He also emphasized the need to keep the environment clean and all the water bodies in the locality. Lastly, pressed on taking up scientific fish farming in all the ponds i.e. small backyard ponds as well as large community ponds to meet the nutritional security of the rural tribal people. Later, Mr. D. Hinge, President, UBYCA explained the people regarding the need of cleanliness of the village and fish farming for food security. Lastly, Mr. F. Sohiong, secretary, UBYCA gave the vote of thanks and appreciated every one for giving their valuable time to make the programme a grand success. The programme concluded with fish fingerling distribution to 10 selected fish farmers in the locality and rancing of fish fingerlings in the local community pond.
